We have researched and looked up Evian to find out what kind of plastic they use, does it contain Bpa, etc. and in the end like most water bottles we find a little bit about it.
Less plastic: 28.6 grams, or 10.6% less packaging
Increased use of recycled material: their bottle is now made of up to 50% recycled plastic (rPET) vs. 25% previously
Evian recently announced a new design for their plastic water bottles that will help the company reduce their environmental impact. The new bottles are lighter weight and include recycled plastic. Evian is making an effort to join the sustainability movement.
Many are unaware of poisoning caused by re-using plastic bottles. Some of you may be in the habit of using and re-using your disposable mineral water bottles (ex. Evian, Aqua, Ice Mountain, Vita, etc), keeping them in your car or at work. Not a good idea. In a nutshell, the plastic (called polyethylene terephthalate or PET) used in these bottles contains a potentially carcinogenic element (something called diethylhydroxylamine or DEHA).
The bottles are safe for one-time use only; if you must keep them longer, it should be for no more than a few days, a week max, and keep them away from heat as well. Repeated washing and rinsing can cause the plastic to break down and the carcinogens (cancer- causing chemical agents)can leach into the water that YOU are drinking. Better to invest in water bottles that are really meant for multiple uses. This is not something we should be scrimping on. Those of you with family - please advise them, especially for their children's sake."

We emailed the representative for Evian and asked her a few question about the water bottle. Here is how she replied:
Dear Einstein 27,
Thank you for your recent inquiry. In response to your question regarding our plastic bottles, Evian Natural Spring Water bottles are made out of PET (Polyethylene Terephthalate - Code No.1). The PET plastic we use is a completely safe food-contact safe material, approved by the Federal Food and Drug Administration. Bottles marked with the 25% and 50% rPET logo are made with 25% or 50% post-consumer recycled plastic or rPET, short for recycled polyethylene terephtalate. The rPET used in our water bottles comes from plastic that has already been used in packaging, like the plastic bottles that you put in the recycling. After collection this plastic is sorted, cleaned and transformed to be reused. This process is approved by US and Canadian federal authorities. There is no connection between PET plastic and Bis-phenol A. Bis-phenol A is not used in the production of PET material, nor is it used as a chemical building block for any of the materials used in the manufacture of PET. Bis-phenol A is used to make polycarbonate, a different plastic from PET. Regarding recent media coverage about clear plastic bottles, please note that the type of plastic referred to was polycarbonate. Although considered safe, polycarbonate plastic is not used in our packaging.
Sincerely,
Lisa Moore, Consumer Response Representative
